Volunteer Duty Descriptions
Launch Control Officer (LCO) - The LCO is the person who "punches the button". Responsibilities include ensuring that the range and skies are safe for launches to commence and to keep the flow of the launch moving expeditiously. LCO should be a Level 2 or above rocketeer.
LCO Assist/Spotter - Assists the LCO with spotting, handling flight cards, and queuing rockets for launch. No certification requirements.
Range Safety Officer (RSO)Assist - The RSOs inspect and approve all rockets prior to launch. The RSOs will ensure that the propulsion, aerodynamic, and recovery systems of each rocket are adequate to accomplish a safe flight. RSO Duties require a rocketeer with Level 2 or above certification.
Pad Managers - Pad managers assist flyers with racking their rockets and transferring the Flight Cards to the LCO station for queuing launches. No certification requirements. This is a good volunteer position for first-time volunteers who want to be involved in the action!
